Delivery skippers frequently move from one yacht to another. Although many yachts are equipped with a comprehensive tool kit, some are quite basic, offering only a few, if any tools. It is, of course, impractical for a skipper to bring a full set of heavy tools when traveling to a vessel, and there are limitations to the repairs that can be performed at sea. Nonetheless, there are a few crucial tools that can be carried to address problems or make temporary fixes.

Delivery skipper essentials

Insulation tape

Insulation tape is adaptable, used for everything from electrical repairs to fastening split rings that may be rubbing against sails.

Cable/Zip ties

Essential! Cable ties are extremely versatile and can be employed for temporary fixes in a variety of situations.

Duct tape

Duct tape is second only to cable ties in usefulness, offering a wide range of applications for temporary repairs. It's strong, heat-resistant, and a must-have onboard.

Small socket set

Duct tape is extremely versatile for temporary repairs, second only to cable ties. It's durable, heat-resistant, and a must-have item.

Adjustable spanner

Your socket set might not fit certain sizes. While not as effective as a set of spanners, it is more convenient and lighter to transport.

Screwdriver with changable bits

Screwdriver with a variety of interchangeable bits, such as Pozidriv, Phillips, flat blades, Torx bits, and Allen keys.

Gasket repair

A small tube of gasket repair is useful for sealing leaks in the water system.

Shackles

Ensure you have a selection of shackles in various sizes and shapes available to replace any that are damaged or worn out.

Pliers

Crucial for electrical tasks, removing insulation and cutting wires.

Wago Connectors

Wago Snap-together connectors offer a great way to establish electrical connections without requiring crimping or soldering.

Sandpaper/Emery cloth

Emery cloth is useful for cleaning corroded connections and eliminating rust and corrosion from engine components.

Emergency Navigation Lights

Battery-operated and secured with a simple cable tie. Ideal for guiding you safely to a marina in the dark when you're in a bind.

Multimeter

Essential for tracing electrical faults.

And Finally

My homemade favourite, if all charging points fail this 12v socket will connect straight to any battery bypassing any potential bad connections.

Delivery skipper essentials

Although the above is by no means a comprehensive list it is enough to get a delivery skipper out of trouble in a number of situations and get back to the marina where a proper repair can be carried out.
